#1 Wool Top, Roving price is the same! No Promises as to how it will turn out.. .THEY WILL NOT LOOK LIKE THE GLOWING SUPERWASH, BUT ARE VERY BEAUTIFUL AS WELL and fun to spin. |
Superwash is very fun to dye.It can take much rougher handling in the water than can normal fiber and still comes out beautiful and ready to spin. |
CAROL'S SPECIALLY DYED SUPERWASH or WOOL We are no longer doing custom dyeing. We will continue doing the Specially Dyed Fibers as time permits. The dyed fiber spins into glorious yarns, strictly one of a kind. We now offer a smaller amount for folks wanting to spin for a pair of socks. 1lb. 8 oz bump..1 lb bump..8 ounces..4 ounces $32.50 $28.00 $15.50 $10.00 All colors are derived from Acid dye stock colors or Rit Dyes on hand. |
Superwash fiber takes many dyes beautifully. I normally use Jacquard Acid Dyes and they work fine for me. We are trying the Dharma Dyes, but I like the Jacquard dyes better. I have also used RIT and the fiber took all the dye leaving a nearly clear water. I often soak my loosely hand crocheted roving in a fairly strong hot vinegar bath before droppng the fiber into the dyepot, this gives a variegated dye job. I would also use this method for wetting the fiber before painting it with the dye. I also just drop the dry roving into the pots for a wider variation of color. |
Carol Lee is ready to make a loose hand crocheted hank of Saffron SuperwashRoving in preparation to drop it into a dyebath, making A Specially Dyed Superwash Roving. |
We offer #1 White Superwash. $16.50 per pound It is a Good White fiber ready to spin or to dye into glorious glowing colors. Very easy to handle, no felting in the dyepots or in the wash. Mixed breeds of sheep in the blend gives the white Superwash a more light cream tone to the white color. The #1 Wool Top is a purer white most of the time. |
BROWN SHEEP SUPERWASH #1 Superwash top fiber... WHITE...$16.50 per pound and COLORS..$21.50 per pd. We have purchased several hundred pounds of this wonderful spinning and dyeing fiber. Bear in mind that this great fiber may not be a completely solid color. It is a base color at the mill that they often use for blending, so some streaks or light to white spots do happen occasionally in the roving dyeing process. SUPERWASH DOES NOT FELT!! Specially Dyed, Superwash, or Wool Roving ....use add to cart button below..... Amts and prices on add to cart button. Photos shown below are rovings that have been dyed in the past. We most likely will not have any on hand like the ones shown. We use a base color and then add more colors to float and to sprinkle on the fiber before pushing it into the dyepot. There are no color buttons to choose from as we never know for sure what will be coming out of the dyepots each week. Dye jobs will likely not look exactly as pictured due to the Dyer's Handiwork. Each dyepot is totally different, and duplications are almost impossible. |

When I am dyeing the rovings I use strong dyes. If they show signs of not absorbing all the dyes, I begin adding fibers to the pots to take up the excess dyes. I call these dye soppers. They are #1 fibers, wool and occasionally mohair or a blend. Possibly some SW , nylon or mohair in the mix as well. They are good for blending, for spinning if you like spinning from handfuls, or they are good for felting. This is a sample of dye soppers from a few days dyeing...you never know what color will appear. You get a mixed bag of color and these may vary from the photo. The fiber now is almost all from the Grab Bag Fibers as we are getting next to no mill end rovings. Generally I have Dye Soppers ready for shipping. No Color Choice, colors will be mixed. On occasion you might have to wait a day for me to dye up more colors and fibers........Colors will vary from the photo on the left...all depends on what I am dyeing at the time. Thank you! |

There are several ways to spin up your specially dyed rovings. Please note that the patterns on the roving are generally unlikely to turn out that way on the yarn itself as is shown in the photo below left. When knitted or woven the pattern of the specially dyed will change yet again. Fun to spin and use... |

A NOTE ABOUT SPLITTING AND WORKING WITH THE SPLIT ROVING. I offer this service for folks who want more yardage and a less thick roving to knit with. Know first off that the roving will be less tight, with more fluffy short wool fibers. I send a felting needle or punch and a small sponge for you to use to "tack" loose ends in and smooth as you work. Most sheep wool contains some asst. lengths of fibers.......one reason that wool sweaters form "pills" on the surface. The roving is "pin drafted" and when I split it, more surface is there to let some of these short ends loose..."tack" them in as you work for you will loosen some as well. The "unsplit" roving will also "pill" somewhat, but not as much...Also, please understand that during the dyeing process the roving ends up being somewhat thinner than does the just washed white roving. Think on this if you are using the colors with the white roving...make it a design element.... |
PLEASE NOTE AND UNDERSTAND THAT ROVING IS NOT YARN...ROVING IS PROCESSED WOOL WE SPIN INTO YARN. ROVING HAS LITTLE TO NO TWIST AND WILL FUZZ UP THE MORE IT IS HANDLED. THIS SIMPLY MAKES IT A SOFT AND WOOLY ITEM AS IT GROWS OLDER. COMFORTABLE AND WARM |
DO THE FULLING AND SPLITTING YOURSELF AND WE CAN SHIP THE ORDERS IMMEDIATELY.....i AM OFTEN BURIED IN ORDERS TO DO THE FULLING AND SPLITTING....I will get your roving processed as quickly as possible. |
NO REFUNDS ON FULLED AND SPLIT ROVING I spend hours and hours, days and days with doing these processes....i would prefer that you do it yourself, not hard, just tedious work. The biggest chunky blankets are not split...your blanket will be thinner for the splitting. Dyed roving is thinner yet, but thicker than yarn. |
Sapphire Blue has purple tones |
IT MAY TAKE 3+ DAYS BEFORE I CAN SPLIT YOUR ROVING. KNOW IT WILL BE A WOOLIER ROVING. WOOL FLUFFS MORE AS IT IS WORKED WITH.... |
Please note that the rovings to the left are dyed only in 2-3 lb. lots. My Specially Dyed Rovings can be dyed in 6-8 lb. lots but will not look like those on the left. The sections of color are much shorter, and there is much variety in the colors as they blend together. |
